Utilizing his background in pain management, Dr. Friedman specializes in the treatment of opioid misuse in patients with a dual diagnosis of pain.

In 1992, shortly after completing his postdoctoral training at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital, Dr. Friedman relocated to the Tampa Bay area where he founded Pain Relief Centers with the goal of helping his patients enjoy life again.

Most recently, Dr. Friedman continued his training at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry within the Division of Addiction Medicine as a fellow. His training included learning the proper treatments of all substance use disorders as well as how to treat the most complex patients suffering from substance use disorders and chronic pain.

Dr. Friedman is now the only practicing, board-certified pain management physician in the region who has been formally fellowship trained and board certified in addiction medicine. He is dedicated to full-time patient care for both sub-specialties. Combining these fields, Dr. Friedman founded this clinic with the goal of treating patients with complex diagnoses of substance misuse disorders with and without the comorbidity of chronic pain.

Dr. BouwhuisGeorgette F. Bouwhuis | ARNP, FNP-BC

Georgette graduated from the University of the State of New York, Regents College with an Associate of Science in Nursing. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology at the University of New York at Fredonia. She went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Tampa. Georgette is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, earned at the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She has spent nearly a decade and a half at St. Anthony’s in various units and has worked with Dr. Friedman since 2009.

Continuing her education, Georgette recently pursued additional training in addiction and substance abuse at the University of South Florida. USF is one of only a few institutions in Florida providing this training with an emphasis in substance use disorders. The post masters certification in addiction and substance abuse counseling provides training on a range of knowledge and skills, including Twelve Step facilitation.
